How to win Blackjack

Beat your friends with the game of Blackjack

One of my favorite games at casinos is the game of Blackjack.  It is one of the easiest games you’ll find and has become one of the most prevalent and well-liked games even for beginners.  The object of the game is pretty simple.  You have to get on, or close to 21 to win the game, providing the dealer has less.  Once you go over 21, you’ll lose or as it is also known as, go “bust”. Bear in mind that in Blackjack, there are 4 times as many cards with a value of 10, than any other value (10, J,K,Q) so be very careful when you “HIT” or “STAND”.

How to know when to “hit” or “stand” when playing Blackjack

It has been shown statistically that nearly 30% of people who play Blackjack, “hit” or “stand” inappropriately.  Look at your card that has been dealt to you, and look at the dealer’s card.  One strategy is to always assume that the dealer’s card is 10, and anything less, will result in him dealing a 10.  Like we stated previously, 10 is the very common.  So if you have anything above eleven, like a Q and a 2, the chances are high you will receive a 10 when you hit.  We found that playing at Emerald Casino and Resort in South-Africa, that it’s usually a good idea to “stand” when you reach 15, or very close to it.  You may however, trust your instincts.  After all, it is your money.  So if you feel you should “hit”, you may.  Don’t say we didn’t warn you though.

Survey your surroundings at look for “winning tables”

This won’t be too difficult to spot.  Smiling faces and laughter is a pretty good sign of winning hands.  If you join such tables you might also walk away with a few extra bucks in your pocket.  If you see a table where the dealer has quite a number of chips in front of him, look for another table.  When you win, tip the dealer if the casino allows this.  You never know, the dealer might even do subtle things in order for a good tipper to win more.  This can be done by performing less thorough shuffles, or penetrating deeper into the shoe before he re-shuffles.  Be aware of the fact that when a “pit boss” notices that the casino is losing too much money, he will likely change dealers, and you have to do it all over again.

There are other ways of winning.  One for instance is counting cards.  This way, you will have a good idea as to which card the dealer might deal either you or him.  There are many books available on this subject, and many opinions and tips surrounding it.  Best bet, is to do a lot of research, and practice practice practice.
